The Battle of Spam: The final stand!

Postby rlundy82 on Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:06 am

Ok, so this spam problem is just not going away the way I hoped it would. Granted we are doing our best to ignore it but it just keeps coming.

I run a forum for my company as well, and we discovered the best way to get rid of spammers, is to make them think they can't get in.

SO! Starting Monday October First 10/1/07 I will be closing the doors to public registration for 1 week. New members will be able to register. When they register, emails will be sent to the administrator's email account. I will set up a gmail account and everyone who is a moderator will have access and will be able to authorize these new members.

Hopefully this will make the bots think that they do not have access and remove the url from the list.

Rob, I just been deleting it if I see it. How do you move it to the spam folder?

Johnny, bellow the post (under the watch the topic for replies sign) there are four small circles.
Second to the left is the the one for moving the topic .
Click on it, then choose quarantine and make the space for leaving the shadow empty (unclick the check mark).
That should do the trick.

I have deleted some of the old forums/threads in an effort to minimize the maintenance required on the forum due to spammers. Soon there should just be General Discussion, Show Reviews, and perhaps a couple more forum areas.

We have a greatly decreased flow of authentic posters on the forum these days, so I believe just a couple of sub-forums should be plenty. If you find the need for other topics, please feel free to start one or to PM me about it. And please post any news of interest on GLP, show reviews, interviews, etc. Let's keep this forum going! Thanks. :D
